The cultural meanings built in the factory affected the relationship between workers constructing a hierarchy among them. In this way, Santa Rosa steelworks was divided into two areas: the hot area and the cold one. But the heat wasn't the only element that determined that division. The hot area was the heart of the factory, it held a strategic position in the production process. If for any reason, this area couldn't work, the whole factory would have stopped. Thus, the workers of the hot area´s production sections held an important bargain power with the management and played a leading role among their comrades.

Also, in these two areas, the production was organized differently. In Rolling, part of the hot area, for example, the work was collective; all the workers collaborated in the manufacturing of the final product. The ingot that came from the furnaces was descaled and formed to the profile of the finished product along a 200 meters line where each worker contributed to this process.
